Welcome to Curriculum/Professional Development Department
The Curriculum & Professional Development Department supports teachers in the continuous improvement of their knowledge and skills. Our goal is to support the delivery of rigorous, standards-aligned curriculum equitably across the district.
Curriculum Implementation
- Equitable, culturally relevant, and responsive
- Rigorously engaging and differentiated through the principles of MTSS
- Accessible to all learners
- Aligned to state and local standards
- Data-driven, research-, and evidence-based
All students should receive high-quality, culturally responsive universal academic and behavioral instruction that is differentiated for student need and aligned with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for mathematics and English language arts, NGSS, ethnic studies requirements, and other state and local standards.
Curriculum, instruction, and assessment grounded in culturally responsive practices—relevance, identity, belonging, and community—best engage students and prepare them to be college, career, and community ready. Instruction aligned with this approach supports the development of analytical, collaboration, and communication skills.
A commitment to high-quality first instruction requires ongoing evaluation of instructional practices and inclusivity. Before implementing interventions for small groups or individual students, data from multiple sources should confirm that high-quality universal instruction is in place. When student achievement data indicates unmet learning targets, instructional and curricular adjustments should be considered prior to additional supports.
