Community Advisory Group (CAG)

Commitment to Accountability and Transparency

The Stockton Unified School District (SUSD) and the Stockton Unified School District Police Department (SUSD PD) are committed to maintaining accountability and transparency to best serve our students and provide safe, supportive learning environments where every student has the opportunity to succeed.

This commitment began prior to the Department of Justice (DOJ) Settlement Agreement and continues today. Our efforts are not driven solely by compliance requirements, but by our belief that transparency, community partnership, and responsible policing are essential to serving our schools and community.

In 2019, SUSD entered into a settlement agreement with the California Department of Justice to strengthen policies, procedures, and oversight related to school policing. Through years of collaboration, reform, and monitoring, the district successfully fulfilled all requirements of the agreement. In February 2024, the DOJ formally concluded its oversight of the district.

The reforms implemented through this process have positioned SUSD and SUSD PD at the forefront of progressive school-based policing, emphasizing student safety, equity, accountability, and community partnership.

Community Advisory Group

The Community Advisory Group (CAG) provides an ongoing forum for dialogue between SUSD PD and community stakeholders. The group helps ensure continued transparency by providing regular updates on department initiatives, reviewing reports, and discussing issues related to school safety and student well-being.

Although DOJ oversight concluded in 2024, SUSD PD remains committed to maintaining the high standards established during the agreement and continuing the collaborative partnerships that were built throughout the process.

To support this commitment, the department has established a quarterly Community Advisory Group meeting schedule through 2027, ensuring ongoing opportunities for community engagement, accountability, and shared responsibility in safeguarding our schools.
